Aid for the Panhandle

When Hurricane Michael struck the Panhandle in October 2018, thousands lost their homes and jobs, including many Puerto Ricans—some of whom had already lost homes in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and resettled in Panama City. Our work in Tallahassee led the Legislature to increase allocations for housing assistance in the Panhandle from $49M to $111M.

Puerto Rico Medicaid Campaign

With Puerto Rico’s Medicaid fiscal cliff approaching, we successfully pushing the issue in the media and urged Florida Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott to support the House bill or introduce a Senate counterpart. These efforts resulted in increased funding for Medicare and Medicaid.

Affordable Housing

Florida faces the nation’s worst affordable housing crisis, with many hard working families unable to afford rent or homeownership due to low wages. The Sadowski Housing Trust Fund, designed years ago as a solution, has been diverted for pet projects. The campaign aimed to protect it.

Vote No on SB168

Opposed SB 168 in 2019, which mandated Florida law enforcement to cooperate with ICE and allowed the Governor to remove noncompliant officials.
